Acupuncture Needles

How does acupuncture treat people?

The ancient Chinese medical practice of acupuncture treats people by sticking needles into them. This is not done to give injections. The needles are lightly inserted into the skin at selected places on the body, and twirled or vibrated for a certain period of time. While it may not always effect a cure, it appears that acupuncture does relieve pain.

The reason that acupuncture works seems to be that the insertion and movement of the needles affect the nervous system and brain, stimulating the release of natural pain- killing substances and so preventing pain. The needles must be placed at the right points ( which may be anywhere on the body ) to treat a particular condition.

Two developments of traditional acupuncture employ modern technology - electro - acupuncture and laser therapy. In electro-acupuncture, electric currents are fed to the needles to stimulates them. Laser therapy uses low-power laser beams instead of needles at the acupuncture points.

Organs-Replace or Remove(ORR)

Which body organs can we do without?

Your body is able to withstand a lot of punishment. You can actually lose several of your organs and stay alive. Some of these organs may have little or no use, such as your appendix and tonsils. If they become infected, surgeons can simply remove them.

Several others organs come in pairs - for example, your kidneys and lungs - and one of them can removed if it becomes diseased and threatens your health. The remaining organ will keep you alive. However, several organs, such as your heart and liver, are vital to life and do not come in pairs. But not all is lost if they are diseased. They can possibly be replaced with organs transplanted from people who have died as a result of an accident or people who donates some of their organs.

Cancer and AIDS

Why are cancer and AIDS so feared?

Cancer and AIDS are two of the most dreaded diseases. They are not highly infectious diseases like the plagues of centuries past, so that people who are with sufferers are not necessarily at risk. But they can be difficult to treat, and there is little hope for patients who have either disease in its advanced stages.

The two diseases may seem to be alike in that they both invade the body. However, they are basically very different. Cancer is a condition in which some body cells suddenly begin to behave abnormally. They may start to produce growths called tumours either inside or outside the body. If the tumours cannot be controlled, they can interfere severely with the body and eventually cause death. But there are severals ways in which doctors can treat cancer and many patients are cured.

AIDS stands for 'acquired immune deficiency syndrone'. This means it is a disease in which the body immunity- its natural defence to diseases-fails. The person becomes susceptible to diseases that would normally be resisted, and may die from them.

Intensive research is being carried out in many countries to find effective ways of fighting both cancer and AIDS.

Diabetic

Why are some people diabetic?

Diabetic are people who suffer from diabetes. The main kind of diabetes affects the pancreas, which is a gland that produces a hormone called insulin. This hormone controls the amount of sugar in the blood, which provides energy for the body. Without sufficient insulin in the body the sugar in the blood would not be properly absorbed by the body resulting an illness called "Diabetes".

There are two types of diabetes; insulin dependent and insulin independent. Type 1 diabetes is the insulin dependent which requires the affected person to administer insulin, because the body cannot produce sufficient insulin for the body to control and absorbed the glucose in the blood. In order to monitor glucose/sugar in the blood, we have "RBS" Random Blood Sugar Monitoring which is the simplest and most affordable way to know your blood sugar content. To diabetic patient RBS is common, before administering insulin they perform RBS monitoring because there are specific number of insulin for different sugar level in the blood.(Note: it is best that you consult your doctor) The type 2 diabetes or what we call insulin independent is less prevalent than type 1 diabetes. The main cause of type 2 diabetes is the incompentent insulin produced by the pancrease. The insulin produced cannot function well leading to high glucose level.
Diabetes is hereditary, so if you have a family history of diabetes be careful of sweets and always exercise. It runs through the family with proper diet and proper monitoring diabetes can be prevented. It is better to prevent than to cure.

Diabetes usually cannot be cured. But by taking insulin and following strict rule for diet and exercise, the effects can be prevented. In the future, doctors hope that a method of automatic sugar control will be developed so that diabetics need no longer be concerned with their condition. This method could involved biosensors to monitor blood sugar levels and release insulin when it is needed.
